Volunteer with us

EPIKS volunteers celebrate a job well done caring for nature in Huddersfield Riverside Nature Park.

Why volunteer with EPIKS ?

Volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference to climate and nature in our local area while looking after your wellbeing at the same time. Joining up and being part of a group of people all working together helps address the powerlessness we can feel when we hear about the scale of the climate and nature crisis. It’s a chance to make great connections, pick up some skills, maybe enhance your CV, and in some volunteer roles build fitness, get some fresh air and put some colour in your cheeks!

Who can volunteer?

Whether you are an individual, community group or business, we will work to tailor the right volunteering opportunity for you. Many of our volunteering opportunities involve working outdoors and require a certain level of fitness, but we also need volunteers for support at events and with tasks in our office and active travel hubs. We are keen to welcome people of all ages and abilities who want to help us provide practical solutions to environmental problems.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us on the link below and we will discuss the best volunteering activity for you.

Ways to get involved

Volunteering opportunities

  • Our regular weekly work parties on Wednesday mornings (10am-12pm) are open to adults of all ages – you’ll experience a variety of tasks, helping to spruce up riverside paths and create healthier habitats for nature. During these two hour sessions our volunteers help keep paths open, gateways attractive and manage wildlife areas. You’ll likely see a bit of wildlife (sometimes a lot!), end with a hot drink and a snack and go away with a real sense of achievement. We will provide tools, equipment and refreshments!  All you need to bring are old clothes and stout footwear. EPIKS will reimburse public transport travel costs if this is a limiting factor. Further information and booking-in link here.
  • Our Active Travel team need volunteers to help out at Walk Wheel Ride events, like try an e-bike sessions and the new “Dr Bike” cycle maintenance sessions. We are always looking for extra pairs of hands to help out at the Holme Valley Walk Wheel Ride hub. We’re currently looking for event assistants, people with bicycle maintenance and repair skills, e-cargo bike volunteers and a film/ photography volunteer.
  • We are looking for people to help out at our office with a range of admin tasks and we are always keen to talk to creative types like artists, performers and musicians to explore what we could do together.
  • All our EPIKS Directors are volunteers! If you would like to be part of the team who help to turn ideas into action and help the environment in Kirklees get in touch. Have a look at the existing volunteer directors on our “About us” page – they are all very nice!
