EPIKS is trialling a low-emissions delivery service this Christmas so that people in the Holme Valley can order hampers from local businesses online and have them delivered by e-bike within the Holme Valley Parish.

Kim Warren, Holme Deliveries Project Officer tells us more about the scheme: ‘Shopping online and having goods delivered is a great way to save time at Christmas, but often goods are sourced from large corporations and delivered by diesel vans. This means that money leaves the local economy and our roads are snagged up with polluting vehicles. Sometimes parcels are over-packaged and the gifts themselves may end up being discarded after Christmas. Here in the Holme Valley, we have a huge range of small, local businesses offering great products, but we don’t have a local one-stop online shopping platform where shoppers can browse and shop online. We’ve carefully chosen gifts that will be useful, long-lasting or ‘consumable’. Our packaging is either recycled or compostable and the hampers will be delivered by e-cargo or e-bike, so the impact on roads will be minimal. This is just the start of a long-term goal to have a valley-wide online shopping and delivery platform that provides a real alternative to Climate Action.

What’s great about the e-cargo bike is that it really provokes discussion about how our choices and actions can make a difference to the way we can cut vehicle journeys. People love the bike coming to their door and meeting the friendly riders. ‘

Order your hampers priced at £25-£35 at:

  • Holmfirth Market 10th December 9am – 12noon

  • by phone on 07915 892 582

Hampers will be delivered between Friday 16th to Monday 19th December within the Holme Valley.

Holme Deliveries is run by EPIKS with initial grant funding from Holme Valley Parish Council Climate Action Fund, Growing Great Places Kirklees, The Bright Green Community Fund and crowdfunding support by individuals through Spacehive. Any profits will be reinvested for future development.
